What's Inspected

A Queensland Safety Certificate inspection covers all safety-critical components of your vehicle. Our licensed inspectors check:

Brakes — pads, rotors, lines, operation
Tyres — tread depth, condition, size matching
Steering — play, linkages, power steering
Suspension — shocks, springs, bushings
Lights — headlights, indicators, brake lights, reverse
Windscreen — chips, cracks, visibility
Wipers — condition and operation
Seatbelts — condition and retraction
Mirrors — condition and adjustment
Horn — operation
Exhaust — leaks, emissions, noise
Fluid leaks — oil, coolant, brake fluid
Structural integrity — rust, damage
Body condition — sharp edges, protrusions

Common Fail Points

Knowing what commonly fails can help you prepare. Check these before your inspection:

  • Tyre tread depth

Must be at least 1.5mm across the tread. Check for uneven wear.

  • Windscreen chips/cracks

Cracks in driver's line of sight or chips larger than 15mm will fail.

  • Light bulbs not working

All lights must work — headlights, brake lights, indicators, reverse lights.

  • Brake pad thickness

Minimum 2mm friction material required. Worn pads = fail.

  • Oil leaks

Any significant fluid leaks visible from underneath will cause failure.

  • Worn wiper blades

Must effectively clear the windscreen without streaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my vehicle fails the inspection? +
We'll provide a detailed list of items that need repair to pass. You can choose to have us do the repairs (we'll quote separately), take it elsewhere, or fix it yourself. Once repaired, we'll do a re-inspection at a reduced fee.
How long is a Safety Certificate valid? +
For selling: 2 months or 2,000km (whichever comes first). For registration: 14 days. Plan your inspection timing accordingly.
Can you do the inspection at my workplace? +
Yes! We just need a flat, safe area to conduct the inspection. A car park works fine. We bring all necessary equipment.
Is this the same as a RWC/Roadworthy? +
Yes. Queensland renamed "Roadworthy Certificate" to "Safety Certificate" in 2019. They're the same thing — an official inspection required for registration transfer.
What if I'm buying a car — who pays for the Safety Certificate? +
Legally, the seller must provide a valid Safety Certificate when selling a registered vehicle in Queensland. However, as a buyer, you might negotiate to split costs or get a pre-purchase inspection for extra peace of mind.
Do you inspect all vehicle types? +
We inspect light vehicles (cars, SUVs, utes, vans), motorcycles, and trailers. For heavy vehicles or special classes, please contact us to confirm.
How quickly can I get an inspection? +
We often have same-day or next-day availability. Book online or call to check current availability in your area.
